Certification Increases Access to Federal Contracting Opportunities
WASHINGTON, DC | MARCH 28, 2012 – TAPE announced today that it has been certified as a women-owned small business (WOSB) by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The Federal government must award five percent of its prime and subcontract dollars to WOSBs. In addition, each Federal agency negotiates small business goals with the SBA that presents, for that agency, the maximum practicable opportunity for small business.
Annually, the DoD awards roughly $10 billion in prime contracts and $8 billion in subcontracts to WOSB concerns. All DoD subcontracting plans are required to have a separate goal for awards to WOSBs.
To be an eligible WOSB, a company must be a small business that is at least 51 percent unconditionally and directly owned and controlled by one or more women who are United States citizens. The company must also have a woman manage the day-to-day operations, make long term decisions, hold the highest officer position in the company and work at the company full-time during normal working hours. The WOSB Program allows contracting officers to specifically limit certain requirements for competition among WOSBs.
“We are excited to be part of the WOSB program” said Louisa Jaffe, TAPE CEO and President. “This recognition will allow TAPE to compete for prime and subcontract dollars designated solely for women-owned small businesses,” she added.
WOSBs are increasing in number, range, diversity and earning power. Women small business owners contribute significantly to the growth of our national economy accounting for $1.2 trillion in revenues and 7.6 million jobs.
